spuffy_noelle: (The Hunger Games - Katniss)
I have been reading way too much fanfic lately.  I've been off for summer vacation for about 2 weeks now and haven't picked up a single book!  For some reason I've been on a Hunger Games kick, and I have a few Katniss/Peeta recs for you.

In Name Only by Izzysamson
In the midst the Great Depression eighteen year old Katniss needs a miracle. Her Papa is dead, Mama has just been hauled off to the asylum, soon she'll be evicted, and Prim put into the child's home. WW1 Veteran, Peeta Mellark, gives her the means to save Prim, he offers to be her husband 'in name only'. The only hitch is; Katniss thinks she loves him… Inspired by everlark recs DD May/Dec prompt

Love Without Reaping by Izzysamson
How would one of Panem's greatest love stories play out if Kanisss never volunteered and Peeta was never reaped and Gale got tired of waiting for Katniss to return his affections and moved on? It would still be epic and dramatic. Peeta must convince Katniss that love and marriage is worth the pain that it may bring. WIP

The Feint by atetheredmind (s_e_irvine)
Peeta Mellark won his games single-handedly at the age of 15. Six years later, he must act as mentor to Katniss Everdeen in the 74th Hunger Games, where they learn there is more than one type of game at play. Very dark Peeta!

The First Time by annieoakley1
Everlark the summer of 2012. When Peeta is about to go off to college, Katniss starts to see him in a different light. Modern Day AU - Characterization is the best I've read and this is a really hot fic.

Maybe It's Just Me by bleedtoloveme
My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am 16 years old. I live in District 12. My best friend has just won the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

In other news I have Part II of Together We Stand off to my beta, and I'm working on a one-shot for [livejournal.com profile] taboo_spuffy. I've also started watching Mad Men and I'm almost finished with Season 1. I'll write up my thoughts on the entire season once I'm finished, but I have to say Betty is pretty badass for a 60's housewife.

spuffy_noelle: (willow-smile)
except that I need to be working on finishing the fic I started for Seasonal Spuffy.  I swear, it's not going to take me YEARS to finish this one!

I read Crave by [livejournal.com profile] nautibitz again. Ugh, her stories are LIKE CRACK. Could. Not. Stop. Reading.

Also started reading Beneath it All by [livejournal.com profile] spuffy_luvr. It's just getting to the Spuffy-ness, and looking to be really long and good!

So like I said nothing much to say. My brain is wiped these days from work. Just a few more weeks 'til summer vacation, though!
spuffy_noelle: (The Hunger Games - Peeta)
I signed up for [community profile] seasonal_spuffy, but have I been writing? No, of course not. I do have a fic idea that I haven't seen done before (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though), but instead of brainstorming, plotting it out, etc. I'm reading Hunger Games fanfic. Thankfully I am one of the last posters this round...

Ya'll have to read Ricochet by [livejournal.com profile] girls_are_weird! It takes place when Katniss is 21 and too old to be reaped, and therefore cannot volunteer to take Prim's place. It's ultimately a Katniss/Peeta story, although it's pretty much like the books where they're hardly together. I honestly feel like I'm reading Suzanne Collins all over again. It's a WIP, up to the 30th chapter and updated fairly regularly from what I've seen.

Naturally that got me looking for HG fanfic on Ao3, and I've downloaded a couple to my Nook (love that I can do that!). I'm reading Stacked Odds right now, and then I also have (in no particular order):
+ The Ashes of District Twelve Series
+ I Long to Hear You
+ Beyond the Fence
+ Maybe It's Just Me
+ The Only Thing Stronger Than Fear
+ The Bough Unbowed

I don't think I've fully processed TVD season finale... )

What's everyone going to be watching over the summer? There are a few new shows I may check out like Motive, and possibly Mistresses (we'll see about that one), and Graceland. Then there are the usual's for me like True Blood and Dexter. I'm sure I'm missing some, but if there's anything really good I should be watching please let me know!
spuffy_noelle: (Spike quote deeply shamed)
Almost exactly one month since I've posted on here.  I AM DEEPLY SHAMED.  I don't even have a good reason for my absence, other than lack of fic/anything interesting to say.  I just quit my job on Monday.  I know it sounds crazy being that the economy sucks and I was lucky to even have a job, but it was a full-time babysitting gig, and it was ABSOLUTE torture!  The kid was out of control and literally abusing me, and I just could not put up with is another day!  It's getting seriously depressing that I can't find a steady job.  I have a Master's degree that's leading me NOWHERE, and I can't even seem to land an interview for anything outside of my field (education).  Knowing I'm not alone helps a little but at the same time I'm almost 27 with no signs of a career in my immediate future and it's SCARY!

Switching gears here - I was watching the season finale of TVD (yes, AGAIN!) and I had a question.  When Tyler and Caroline say goodbye before he "dies" is Klaus already in Tyler's body?  Because at that point we've seen Klaus staked, and Rebekah is almost already back in Mystic Falls.  And Tyler telling Caroline she'll have a "beautiful life" just sounds Klaus-y to me.  Has this already been discussed?  (Probably - I'm always late to the party :( )

As for my lack of fic writing you may be asking what the heck else are you doing with your time on the internet?  Well [livejournal.com profile] whedonland is still consuming a lot of my time.  I'm so sad this is the last round, and I've only been involved once before!!  I just saw on my F-list that I missed submitting to a challenge that happened to be very time consuming.  Pretty annoyed about that, but oh well.  I'm also still up to my ears in fic I missed out on during my five years away from fandom.  I also seem to be rereading a lot of stuff I read in the past, and that I've read in the last year of being back.  Like The Secret of the Boy You Never Kissed by [livejournal.com profile] minxdelovely. Such a great story that I had to reread it when she started reposting it to her LJ.  I also caught up on Yours, William and it's sequel My Elizabeth by [livejournal.com profile] thepuddinhead.  Sad to see it come to an end, but really excited to see what she has in store for William and Buffy.  Right now I'm also reading Some Cold Lovin', Las Vegas Style by Bloodshedbaby.  Can't believe I haven't read all of BSB's work, but I definitely don't remember reading this before.  I also have her story Stranded waiting in the wings for when I finish.  As always I'd love some recs.  I'm definitely forgetting to mention other fics I've read in the last month, but these are in the forefront of my mind.  I really want to start [livejournal.com profile] rahirah's Barbverse, but I'm so intimidated by the size of it!  Also on that list is The Unexpected Universe series, so hopefully I'll be getting around to those soon.

I want to get back into Out of Reach, and I've been working on a sequel to Lie to Me which is going to be very different from the first one.  The problem is I have to many freaking plot bunnies running around in my head that it's hard to focus on just one at a time.  I'm trying to write the sequel to Lie to Me in parts as they come to me which is something I haven't done before.  We'll see how that works out, and hopefully I'll have something new to share soon!

Lastly, and WOW was that a long post!, I've started watching Veronica Mars.  I'm only four episodes in, but I'm enjoying it and hopefully Soapnet lets me finish the entirety of the show before it goes off the air!

Okay that's it.  How is everyone else's summer going?  Eljay seems to be pretty dead lately so I hope you're all enjoying!
spuffy_noelle: (Game of Thrones - Dany/Jorah)

I just read a great Hunger Games fanfic The Unrecorded Hours by hollycomb. Can anybody rec me any good Hunger Games - Peeta/Katniss fics? I'd also love to read some Game of Thrones - Dany/Jorah fics.

Of course I have to give you a rec!  I've been reading so much fanfic lately - I started a new job and have a ton of time to read on my commute AND at work.

My Life Closed Twice by [livejournal.com profile] anaross
Summary: Post-Not Fade Away. Buffy seeks Spike's remains, but then finds him in the most unusal place.

Seriously loved this story!  Buffy really works hard to earn Spike's trust, but it's not frustrating.  Beautifully written and I'm sure everyone has already read it, but if you haven't GET ON IT!  Definitely worth a read or even a re-read.

THE REC

I just read The Fall of William by Skyz.  A great story with a lot of twists and turns.  Definitely recommend ya'll check it out if you haven't already!

spuffy_noelle: (Spuffy - reading fanfic)
Last night I read The Ballad of Randy and Joan by Annie Sewell-Jennings.  It's 9 chapters long, and so bittersweet.

Summary:  "She is a blank canvas, and he is not allowed to paint her."

Since that's not much to go on, it's set in a post-apocalyptic world (it's the end of the world as we know it) and Buffy doesn't remember her life before the world ended.  Such a great read, I definitely recommend reading if you haven't or re-reading if it's been a while.
spuffy_noelle: (Spuffy - reading fanfic)
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, whether you were celebrating Thanksgiving or not.  I was in Florida celebrating with my family, and enjoying the sun and warm weather.  I was able to read a few great fanfics while I was away, and though I'm sure these aren't new to anyone else, they were new to me.

>>  I finished Long Time Gone by Bitterness.  What a terrific story.  Spike and Buffy's relationship was so complex, and well developed.  I'm a sucker for AH/AU baby-fics.  I've also never read a story that paired Dawn/Oz together, and I was surprised to find I didn't mind it, even though I really prefer Willow/Oz.  I love Spike and Dawn's seasons 5 & 6 relationship, and I love to read fics where they share that sibling-like bond.  If you haven't read this story, I highly recommend it.

>>  More Than Strangers by Sadbhyl.  This fic was the perfect mix of hotness and angst.  Another AH/AU.  Buffy is in an unhappy marriage, and she meets a handsome stranger in a cafe.  I feel like I must have read this fic already, but either way I thoroughly enjoyed it!

>>  Another Bitterness fic, Impossible part of The Triad series.  Set in an AU post-season 6.  Buffy becomes pregnant as part of a prophecy, and the gang bands together to protect her and her unborn child against the evil that wants to destroy them.  Bitterness has  a great way of telling a story, one that I find really unique.  Her stories are Spuffy, but she has a great way of intermingling story lines to include the rest of the gang.

>>  Let's Get Lost by Herself.  NC-17 fic set post-season 2.  Spike happens upon Buffy in NYC.  They're both feeling lost and alone and decide to do something about it.  If anyone has read this fic, I'd love to hear what you thought of the ending.  I was slightly confused if it was left up to the reader's interpretation or if I'd just missed something.

Told you I got a lot of reading done!  I also had a lot of time to think about a few plot bunnies I have running around in my head which will hopefully turn into me doing a lot of writing.

(Insert whatever holiday you celebrate here!)

After hearing about the community through [livejournal.com profile] rebcake, I decided to join [livejournal.com profile] btvs_santa.  It sounds like a lot of fun, you get a secret Santa to give gifts (fic, icons, art, etc.) to and you receive gifts that you've outlined in a wish list from someone else.  You can sign-up through Nov 30th, and there aren't too many wish lists posted yet.  If you're interested, it seems like a fun way to spread some holiday cheer!

On a totally different note, has anyone read Long Time Gone by [livejournal.com profile] bitternessfic?  I'm up to chapter 21, and I'm really enjoying this story.  Each chapter is long and detailed with great plot.  It's a Spuffy fic with lots of other characters (Anya, Oz, Dawn, Xander, Dru, Willow, Tara, Darla), and those characters have their own story-lines going on.  If you haven't read it yet, I would absolutely recommend it!
