spuffy_noelle: (Spuffy - reading fanfic)

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, whether you were celebrating Thanksgiving or not.  I was in Florida celebrating with my family, and enjoying the sun and warm weather.  I was able to read a few great fanfics while I was away, and though I'm sure these aren't new to anyone else, they were new to me.

>>  I finished Long Time Gone by Bitterness.  What a terrific story.  Spike and Buffy's relationship was so complex, and well developed.  I'm a sucker for AH/AU baby-fics.  I've also never read a story that paired Dawn/Oz together, and I was surprised to find I didn't mind it, even though I really prefer Willow/Oz.  I love Spike and Dawn's seasons 5 & 6 relationship, and I love to read fics where they share that sibling-like bond.  If you haven't read this story, I highly recommend it.

>>  More Than Strangers by Sadbhyl.  This fic was the perfect mix of hotness and angst.  Another AH/AU.  Buffy is in an unhappy marriage, and she meets a handsome stranger in a cafe.  I feel like I must have read this fic already, but either way I thoroughly enjoyed it!

>>  Another Bitterness fic, Impossible part of The Triad series.  Set in an AU post-season 6.  Buffy becomes pregnant as part of a prophecy, and the gang bands together to protect her and her unborn child against the evil that wants to destroy them.  Bitterness has  a great way of telling a story, one that I find really unique.  Her stories are Spuffy, but she has a great way of intermingling story lines to include the rest of the gang.

>>  Let's Get Lost by Herself.  NC-17 fic set post-season 2.  Spike happens upon Buffy in NYC.  They're both feeling lost and alone and decide to do something about it.  If anyone has read this fic, I'd love to hear what you thought of the ending.  I was slightly confused if it was left up to the reader's interpretation or if I'd just missed something.

Told you I got a lot of reading done!  I also had a lot of time to think about a few plot bunnies I have running around in my head which will hopefully turn into me doing a lot of writing.

It's been awhile since I read Let's Get Lost, but I had the impression that

SPOILERS

At some point towards the end of the story, Spike loses his soul - I forget just where; it's not real obvious. But since he promised to take care of her, he sends her home to her mother. My read of the letter at the end is that it's him telling her that he plans to come and kill her once she's gotten her act together and she's a proper challenge again.

I think Herself actually began a sequel at one point, but it petered out after a chapter or two without resolving anything.

Okay, from the note I figured that Spike lost his soul, but I even went back to see if I'd missed something and couldn't find anything glaringly obvious to confirm it. I mean, on the ride back to the city, Spike's smelling her hair and holding her close. So then I thought...well, Spike isn't Angel with the abrupt soul-provoking personality changes.

I was looking for a sequel, because it seemed like there would be one, but I didn't find it. I really enjoyed the story, though, and that's what I got from it but I wasn't sure if I was right. Thanks for helping me clear this up!

It confused a lot of people back when she first posted it, as I remember. I don't recall exactly what point the soul loss happened, but she had to point it out to most of us.

Impossible is a brilliant story ... in fact, I have just re-read it! So, I shall look at that first one, as one I hadn't seen - Thanks for that.

OK, first, thanks for the recs! Between this post and the email you sent me, you have supplied me with some great fic this last week, lol.
But, I do have a question. I am finishing up "Long Time Gone" and I am wondering is it all there? I see on her LJ that she said there is 45 chpters and an epilogue. But, with the link you posted above, there is only 43 chapters in the drop down. Now I did figure out that I could go to the address bar and change the chapter # and you could get to 44 and 45 that way. But, I don't see the epilogue. Is it all there with the end of chapter 45? Is the epilogue posted anywhere?
Thanks!!!

I don't think there is an epilogue. The Author's Note on Chapter 45 says it's the last chapter until the sequel and I can't find an epilogue anywhere, unfortunately. If you go back to Chapter 1, the drop down menu with the chapters includes Chapters 44 & 45. I'm so glad you're enjoying my recs! I've been on a fanfic kick, and I'm glued to the Find-A-Fic forum on TSR looking for good stories to read!
