It's really baffling to me how many of these shows I don't watch.  I seem to have an endless amount of shows to watch each week on my DVR!

Wait -- you struck out the ones you DO watch, right? I'm going to assume so based on what I know about you :)

Okay, I have lots of feelings about lots of these shows, so I'll probably come back for more. But I've made it my job to stan the heck out of The Wire's Omar Little this year, so I'll start with why he is a character so great, even Barack Obama took time out of his life to comment on his awesomeness.

A) Omar is a badass. Other badass characters have supernatural powers, or years of special training, or were raised to be badasses by their badass parents or whatever. Omar? Omar has a shotgun and guts.

B) Omar makes his living robbing drug dealers. Again, with a shotgun and guts. He's so feared, people run when he walks down the street, and he can rob people with a threat. He once stole a big time dealer's stash and then sold it back to him.

C) Despite all that, Omar is, in his way, incredibly moral. To quote the man himself: "I ain't never put my gun on nobody that wasn't in the game."

D) He's gay, and his relationships are given weight and he is incredibly loving in his own way. Indeed, a major plot arc of his revolves around seeking revenge for a lover who was brutally killed. At the same time, being gay in no way defines his character -- it is part of who he is, but it far from all he is.

E) His crew tends to be made up of himself, his lover, and a couple of badass lesbian friends of his.

F) He doesn't smile often, but when he doesn't it's excellent:

In conclusion: Vote Omar! He's one of the more original, kick butt, nuanced, hilarious, and heartbreaking characters I have ever encountered.

Yes, thank you! Lonngg day today and I'm running on fumes at this point...

Thanks for your recommendation. I love Michael Kenneth Williams on Boardwalk Empire, so I'm sure he was amazing in this show. From what you've told me, it might go on my "to watch" list.

Oh, he was. In fact, that fact that he's on Boardwalk is the reason I keep almost watching that. I LOVE MKW.

OH IT SHOULD. *stans for this show so hard* There's a reason so many people consider it one of the greatest shows of all time. It just does realism like nothing else on TV.

So at the risk of sounding new, what is this about?

Information on [livejournal.com profile] f_march_madness (Fandom March Madness) can be found here (http://f-march-madness.livejournal.com/7766.html). Head on down and vote for your favorites! This is my first year since I was out of fandom for so long, but my understanding is that each week we choose between two characters in a tournament/bracket type competition which culminates in one winner at the end.

Some other things:

Pretty Little Liars: Vote Spencer Hastings! She's awesome -- smart, determined, ruthless, and fiercely protective of her friends. I swear to god I look up to her, and she is a 16 year old high school student. This show is overall kind of silly, but Spencer is legit incredible.

Misfits: Kelly Bailey! She's tough, doesn't take anyone's BS, has an awesome accent, and kicked the shit out of Hitler one time.

Mad Men: Peggy Olson. A woman working in a man's world, discovering feminist, and generally being awesome in the '60s.
