Season five thoughts (LOST)

Currently on the third episode of season six, but here are some thoughts on season five
I'm sick and my head's all fuzzy so this'll be brief.
What is everyone even thinking?
Is Sayid the only one playing with a full deck here? Normally I'd never be on board with killing a cute little nerdy kid, but when that kid turns out to be BEN...yeah I'm okay with that. I was so glad Jack refused to help, and I honestly have no idea why Kate, Sawyer and Juliet felt the need to save Ben. I get it from a writing stand point cuz he's a major character, but these people are KILLERS. Why would they give a fuck about a kid who grows up to terrorize them??
Everything hurts and nothing is okay.
Definitely not the biggest Juliet fan out there, but I absolutely broke down and cried like a baby when she fell down the shaft/hole/whateveritwas. Sawyer was completely amazing and beautiful in that scene. I kinda get it now. Him and Juliet were real. And then everyone came back and it all went to hell. Still don't ship them, but I get it.
Daniel Faraday's mother killing him in 1977 was rough, too. I love this show cuz all it does it shock the hell outta me.
???
I have no clue anything that went on between John Locke (who is simultaneously dead and alive) and Ben. Really enjoyed Sun hitting Ben in the back of the head with an oar, though. She is so badass when she wants to be.
As I'm writing this it seems I don't have many thoughts from this season. I enjoyed it, but it definitely wasn't a favorite. I guess it makes some sort of "sense" that they're all dead and on this island (yes, I know how this show ultimately ends), but then they're all dead but go back to the "real world"?
I've started season six, so some things are cleared up. Like how Locke is dead and not really dead. Where the heck Claire is. Still new questions, but it won't be long now.
Take a look at this Lost Seaon 5 drinking game I found. You'd be in the hospital after one episode.

Date: 2013-02-10 09:49 pm (UTC)I loved the 'don't kill Ben as a kid' storyline because it was about Sawyer and Kate and Juliet's redemption--for them the driving force was not who Ben would be, but who Ben WAS, and I couldn't help but think that was a very internalized way of thinking. Which was just cool to me. And also, they couldn't kill Ben, because it ALREADY HAPPENED. I mean, it didn't matter what they did, he wasn't going to die, because time is an eternal round, and it had already happened.
By the same token, though, Jack was willing to wipe it all away, which to me was the biggest insult to Kate ever and made my hate for him grow ever greater.
And word to the wise: THEY AREN'T ALL DEAD. THAT'S NOT HOW IT ENDS. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW PEOPLE THINK THAT'S WHAT THE ENDING MEANS. We'll get to that, eventually. :D

Date: 2013-02-11 12:26 pm (UTC)Literally every person I've spoken to about this show in RL has told me they're all dead. A character in This is 40 even said it LOL. Now I'm even more intrigued to see how it ends! It's so close...I think I got up to episode 9 or 10 yesterday. I'm in for a great discussion, I can tell :)

Date: 2013-02-11 12:29 am (UTC)I'm with you on Juliet's death. Absolutely do not ship them at all and can't stand her as a character but that scene had me weeping like a baby. Also, Faraday getting killed by his mom was one of the most mindfuck moments of the entire show. I loved and hated it at the same time.
As for the Locke stuff... from here on out you kinda just have to watch it and deal with it, because you can't really figure it out :P it gets pretty crazy.
Also I just wanted to clarify, they're not all dead on the island. It will make sense, but yeah. It's one of the biggest misconceptions about Lost, that they're dead the whole time, because they're not. I don't understand how so many people misunderstood the finale so wildly. :P

Date: 2013-02-11 12:47 am (UTC)AMEN. Everything that happened on the island, actually happened and was real (yay!)
Oh, I miss this show so much!

Date: 2013-02-11 12:36 pm (UTC)I was especially surprised by Juliet. She was so cool and detached from a lot of things, but when it comes to someone who literally kept her prisoner for all those years that's what she takes an emotional stand on? Or was it that she didn't want to disagree with Sawyer/Kate?
I need to get to the finale and see for myself what happens. I'm gonna reference this comment (http://spuffy-noelle.livejournal.com/82507.html?thread=528203#t528203) because I have a feeling I'll be repeating myself quite a bit in this post :)

Date: 2013-02-12 12:48 am (UTC)lol that's fair enough. It will all make sense, I promise. In a way I can kinda see how people think that they're all dead the entire time, but... no. No, that's not what happens. :P

Date: 2013-02-11 12:46 am (UTC)It's what sets them apart from the "bad guys".
And from a practical writing pov...my head hurts just thinking how many stuff would change if Ben would be dead at 8 or whatever. O.O
I never cared for Julie either (even though I liked Juliet/Sawyer) but I also bawled like crazy when she died. That was incredibly sad...especially for Sawyer, who I really love.
Daniel Faraday's mother killing him in 1977 was rough, too. I love this show cuz all it does it shock the hell outta me.
OH MY BABYYYYY...I loved Daniel so much, so..so much. Ah, the sadness :(
I have no clue anything that went on between John Locke (who is simultaneously dead and alive) and Ben
I can't wait for you to get to that part!!
As for the finale...virtual_toast said it all :)

Date: 2013-02-11 01:14 pm (UTC)But I'm so surprised everyone you talked about said they were all dead on the island....I mean, I won't spoiler it for you now but it's clearly stated when the times comes..that it was all real.
Well, you'll get to it so I'll just wait patiently...(and quietly rage on people who spread things on LOST lol)

Date: 2013-02-11 01:40 am (UTC)DITTO. I don't actively ship Juliet/Sawyer either (though I appreciate their relationship), but I totally lost it during that scene. YANA.
I'll be interested to see what you think of the end of the series! It's, erm, interesting.
